Strength Training Plans

Perfect balance is a lofty goal... but one that every athlete should strive for. A successful athlete is one who has attained perfect balance in training and in life. All of the puzzle pieces must fit perfectly in order for the outcome to be picture perfect. There are a number of things to address in training, some more important than others. But the one thing that can be successfully trained is strength development. It has been proven that all other things being equal, the stronger athlete will always win. Expert guidance makes all the difference. As with any other physical training, the athlete needs focus and vision. These are not just desirable, these are necessary elements to achieving the goals that we establish. The power to visualize makes it possible to continue to improve, while the actual execution of the training program makes it a reality. Once you have decided that you want to gain strength you simply need a well designed program and the expert guidance of a professional to help you through the maze of training myths that dominate the popular magazines that most of the general public follows. Philosophy of Fitness Training

Coach Mike Manning developed a philosophy of natural fitness evolution while  under the tutelage of one of the earliest pioneers in the fitness industry, Dr. Richard Keelor. As the first Director of Program Development for the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Dr Keelor launched Health Designs International to promote his message of health and fitness for the masses. This program was strongly influential in the creation of Coach Mike's own program called Simple Choices. More than just physical fitness training, it embodies the idea of fully functional fitness. Far ahead of its time, the fundamental elements that comprise the teachings can be seen today in many diverse disciplines such as CrossFit, dance movement, functional strength and Core training The most advanced concepts in fitness are practiced at Simple Choices. See for yourself what you can be... Mind, Body and Spirit.

Coach Mike has a lifelong love of athletic competition, having competed in the traditional sports arenas of baseball and football since his pre-teens. As a high school track and field star in the 800 meter run and the pole vault, he developed a love for the intensity of the sport. He was a varsity wrestler at Appalachian Sate University and continued competing in freestyle and Greco-Roman tournaments into his late twenties. After developing knee problems while training as a distance runner, he switched to competitive cycling and has been racing bikes ever since.

Coach Mike is a certified personal trainer with the top educational program in the fitness industry, the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He has also completed the Performance Enhancement Specialist course as well as the Corrective Exercise Specialist program. He currently serves as the Vice President of the Oregon Governor's Council on Physical Finess and Sports Foundation.
